DomainScan help

The WMI interface, which DomainScan and other management tools use (for instance, DomainScan Pro, Microsoft Operations Manager or Microsoft System Management Server), is a powerful management interface, due to the fact that all newer Microsoft applications has a WMI-interface that can expose useful hardware and software information.

Information is retrieved by using SQL-like statements. These statements are called WQL queries (SQL for WMI), and can be used to extract information about both hardware and software from both the local and remote computers. WQL supports basic SQL – see the WMI information page at the GH Software website.

Note
The WMI interface is natively supported in Windows 2000 SP3 and newer operating systems. On earlier systems, it’s necessary to install the WMI core components from Microsoft.

Note
As of Windows Vista / Windows Server 2008, one must enable remote WMI and create an exception in the firewall in order for WMI to be accessed remotely.
See this tech doc for details

Usage up
Enter the query in the Query field, and select computer(s) and namespace. Then press Run query to let DomainScan start the query on the selected computer(s).

To query the local computer, type . as computername. For any other computer, type the name of the computer.

If the query returns successfully (data is returned), the query will be remembered, and the returned data will be shown in the Data area.

DomainScan will only work with the cimv2 namepace. To query other namespaces, please consider upgrading to DomainScan Pro.
