The Setup Wizard is designed to ease the initial installation of DomainScan. Because of this, not all features can be set by the Setup Wizard but must be set in Settings. However database naming can only be done with this wizard. The Setup Wizard is capable of installing or reinstalling the entire DomainScan application (Client and Service). The Setup Wizard will guide you though the installation process and the process can be aborted at any time, until the Apply step is executed. Important If DomainScan Server Monitoring Service is already installed, and you wish to change the database setup, please make sure that the DomainScan Service is not running. Welcome up
![]() In the first step, installation method must be selected: DomainScan Client & DomainScan Server Monitoring Service This option will install both DomainScan Server Monitoring Service (or DomainScan Service for short) and DomainScan Client. It’s only necessary to select this option on the server where DomainScan Service is installed. DomainScan Client Select this option if you’re installing the Client and the service is already installed on a different server. When this option has been chosen, then the setup wizard will hide all installations steps but Client settings Reset / repair installation: If DomainScan is already installed, then this option is also available. If the option has been chosen, then the registry will be reset to its initial state, and the Service will be reinstalled. However, the database itself will not be modified. Database store up
![]() In this step one must choose the database name and the location for the database. By default DomainScan suggest a database name and location, which is a subfolder, called Store, to the installation path, but this can be changed arbitrarily. DomainScan can perform automatic database movement, so one can select a more elaborate folder structure and location later. The location can be set in Preferences. Backup up
![]() In this step, one can specify a folder location that DomainScan can use for backup purposes. This is highly recommended unless a 3rd party backup strategy is planned. DomainScan can enable compression on the target folder, if it’s supported by the file system, which means that the backup will require only about half the space as compared to an uncompressed database. Service installation up
![]() DomainScan Service runs as a Windows Service, and can be installed on Windows 2000 or newer (Professional and Server editions), and in this step the default logon credentials for DomainScan Service must be set. DomainScan Service will install two services – a Control Service and a Scanning Service. For details about the services see Technote #1 on the GH Software website To let DomainScan work as intended, then DomainScan Service must run with Domain Admin (or equivalent) privileges. Otherwise, some or all parts of DomainScan will fail to operate successfully. Skip DomainScan Service (re)installation: Select this box if you do not wish to install or reinstall the service at this point. The service can be installed later in Preferences. DomainScan will automatically try to grant the login Log on as a service permissions, when the Setup Wizard is used. In case of service installation errors, please refer to the techzone at the GH Software website. Client settings up
![]() In this step, the default database that DomainScan Client must mount upon application start can be set. If the service is also installed, then the Setup Wizard will automatically suggest a database, but any database can be set. If you’re connecting to a database on a remote server, then enter the server name in the text box next to the button, and press . Setup Wizard will then try to locate the default database on the remote server.
Apply / Finish up
![]() In this final step, Apply must be checked to confirm that the changes are to be applied. Also, if DomainScan Service is to be installed, then it’s possible to tell the Setup Wizard to start the Service immediately. If is pressed, then the Setup Wizard will create registry settings and install services as specified in the previous steps. During the installation process Setup Wizard may appear to freeze for a few seconds while Services are being installed.
Post installation up
The Setup Wizard initializes a number of parameters with default values. However tuning and tweaking may be needed. This can be done in Preferences. | ||||||||
