The ping and port scanner tool can be used to test if a device is responding on TCP request on specific ports. The ping facility can be used to test if a device is online.

Enter the name of the devices that are to be pinged in the Device filter, and click on Execute.

By default, the device will be echoed 3 times with a 1 second timeout period.

Both of these values can be altered in Options panel to the left

The most recent ping-result will always be shown at the top.
Furthermore, once a device has been pinged more than 3 times, older results will be placed in an Archive sub tree, which means that it’s easier to monitor multiple ping request simultaneously.

If Repeat is checked, then the ping routine will repeat itself until Stop has been pressed.

A running ping operation can be aborted by pressing Stop during scan.

This tool can be used to check whether or not servers in the local network have open ports.

It is highly recommended to have as few ports as possible open on any server, as this lowers the attack surface.


Scan

Enter the name of the device or devices that are to be echoed in the Device filter, and press Execute, and the scan will start.

DomainScan will scan the entire device before it moves on, and the result is shown while the scan is running.

An active scan can be aborted by pressing Abort during scan.

DomainScan can scan either one or more specific known ports, or a range of ports.

Range

To scan a range of ports, select the Port range option and enter the lower and upper port that are to be scanned. Any port from 0 to 65.536 is usable.
To scan one port, simply enter the same port number in both fields.

Specific ports

Select Specific ports and check the ports that are to be scanned.
