General usage up

Search for

The Search For panel is different for each search tool, and is to be used to narrow down a search.
In these fields, the characters * or % can be used as wildcards.

WQL

WQL is a free-search field, where additional search criteria’s can be specified.

The text in this field must comply with the WQL syntax, which is a SQL-like syntax. The text that is entered in this field is added as a part of the WHERE clause in the WQL statement that is generated, when a search is started.

Note	Wildcard searches are not supported on Windows 2000 or earlier, and queries with a wildcard will result in 0 results. For details on the WQL syntax click here

Device filter

With this field, one can specify which computers to search.

Separate multiple computers by a , (comma) or a ; (semicolon)

Settings
Auto Timeout [Enabled by default]	If this option is enabled, searches will automatically terminate after 3 minutes. In case that this period is too short, unclick this option, and the search tool will shift to a 60 minute timeout period
Include offline devices	If enabled, then the Device filter will include offline computers, when wildcards are used to select devices.
Close	Closes the search tool
Stick
If set, then DomainScan will not reuse the window, but launch another window, so that its possible to launch several searches at the same time. The window is automatically locked during a search

Limit share type	Select this option, to reduce the share types to search for Share Types: Disk drive: All normal shares Print queue: All shared printers Device: All general devices IPC: Inter Process communications devices Disk Drive Admin: '$-shares', i.e. administrative shares Print Queue Admin: Print Queue shares (administrative) Device Admin: General devices (administrative) IPC Admin: Inter Process communications devices (administrative)

File up

Search For

Filename	The filename to search for
Path	All computers are searched
Drive	Select the drive to search
Extension	The extension to search for (without the leading dot)

Note	Empty searches or full-drive searches are prohibited due to the fact that it would cause DomainScan to return all files and directories on the computer or an entire drive
